American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) - Position Statement on Consumer Sleep Technology

Press Release
May 15, 2018

BROOMFIELD, COLO - SleepImage is pleased to highlight a Press Release issued today by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine regarding the publication of its Position Statement on Consumer Sleep Technology appearing in the May 15 issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine

The publication states: “It is the position of the AASM that CST [Consumer Sleep Technology] must be FDA cleared and rigorously tested against current gold standards if it is intended to render a diagnosis and/or treatment.  Given the unknown potential of CST to measure sleep or assess for sleep disorders, these tools are not substitutes for medical evaluation.”

Based on rigorous work over many years, the SleepImage technology has been validated against 20.000+ Polysomnography (PSG) studies and has been proven to accurately measure Sleep Quality, Sleep Pathology and Sleep Duration.  The SleepImage technology is FDA cleared medical software that analyzes single lead electrocardiogram (ECG) data that can be collected by some consumer-oriented devices.

This ability to turn high quality data from a consumer device into clinically validated and FDA cleared medical information to evaluate sleep quality and sleep pathology is what makes SleepImage unique in medical technology for sleep medicine.

The technology behind SleepImage is called Cardiopulmonary Coupling (CPC).  With two FDA clearances, over 40 peer-reviewed publications and medical textbook credentials, SleepImage offers the ability to connect the convenience of consumer devices with the requirements of medical practice.  SleepImage provides high quality, reliable data on sleep health that is cleared to aid clinical management to inform or drive clinical decisions, whether for screening, diagnosing or tracking treatment of sleep disorders.
